As our kids travel to their new lives - college, jobs far away - technology has let me continue to be part of their experiences. They don't feel so 'gone' because of journaling and social networkds. It keeps our family together.

Why I love my journal

I love my journal because no one ever reads it except my one friend probably get a notice when I post something. Hi friend! I'm not sure that this really means much and it sure makes me feel fairly free to comment on whatever, or not.

Other things I love:

June and July in Oregon
Poncho and Mad Dog
UPS trucks with the doors that are open all the time
Being able to see and send photographs electronically
Rocky Road ice cream

Have a nice day!

Why should I get an advanced degree?

I am surrounded (metaphorically) by people who: a. are getting advanced degrees for reasons other than learning. b. are getting advanced degrees for no apparently reason (me) and c. think people who get advanced degrees are idiots.

Well...I think I'll ChaCha and find out which catagory I should fall into.

Layoffs and the death of schools...

Black Friday is in 3 days. 20% of our school is getting the axe. Hmmmm, the death of public education is happening even after GW got voted off the island, thanks to his economic policies/war making intents. Bummer is, the kids will keep showing up. Do the best you can with what you've got.

Dylan passed the state reading test, and he's dyslexic even though there's no such thing.
There is such a program as Man v. Food.
Dogs like you no matter what you do.
People who don't get the point suck.
People who 'don't think that is funny' suck cuz everything is funny.

Ok, I posted something. Have a nice day.

I can't wait for the group dance which will be a large pile of people putting the WhoopAss down on each other to 80s House. Or at least that's my fantasy. Bring it.

Advent v. Yule v. Xmas shopping

I wish they all didn't happen at the same time.  Technically, I guess they go together (like pie and punch, in a socioterrific way) it would be so much easier to not have to code switch.  Oh, and go to work each day too.

Well, sometimes you have the obvious choice, but sometimes no.

Why aren't oysters, not turkey, the official representative of the Pilgrim's original food?

I don't know what that means, but it popped up in my subject when I typed in 'I'.

Friends make friends laugh.

When you are around true friends, they have an almost hyper-sensativity to you...if you are having a hard time at work, tired of your kids, need some space, whatever.

Friends live through things with you. You aren't abandoned by a friend because of a temporary disagreement.

Wow, I am finding myself bizarrely drawn to hand crafted cheese. Is it a food thing? hand crafted thing? alternative lifestyle thing? just plain is yummy thing? Its the end of the school year, many/many/many things are happening or about to happen, and all I can think of is sour cream/ricotta and mozarelle shreds. I don't want to do report cards, I want to talk to people about cheese...

Cheese

OK, so I am an educated grown up. Is there any good reason I should go to work all summer selling hand-crafted cheese at the Beaverton Farmer's Market every Saturday from now (May) till October??? I can think of lots but... am I being blinded by cheese?

Anyone who doesn't think that every elementary school teacher in the universe is starting the spring ritual of the countdown is just plain silly.

5 things I like about school this time of year:

1. Reality sets in - we recognize our human limitations and focus on short term goals.

2. Everyone is Goal Oriented - forget the long term, big picture thing.

3. April Fool's Day makes everyone start telling really bad jokes. Like: Where do bugs get the news? They read the Fly Paper.

4. Testing is almost over. The last round of state assessments is in early May. That means the constant, nagging strain of testing is gone, for now.

5. Planning for summer is kinda like being in summer, isn't it? As talk turns to summer plans, our brains turn to summer mode. But its too early and cold for bathing suits. Perfect.

Hey, how wierd is it to be female and totally into sports? I keep thinking I'm going to invite a friend over/out for bowl watching but hmmm..never can think of one.

Also, Ker, sorry about a life of living in a house of sports-crazed zombies. Musta been hard.

Yes, as a matter fact, I did. I believe there should be an amendment to the Constitution which disallows the presidential primaries to proceed without the third estate being intact, i.e. No Iowa without John Stewart. Seems perfectly reasonable.

Does anyone but me find the "Overheards in..." blogs strangely addicting? Its like the funny day-to-day encounters I wish I had, all condensed down into one tidy blog. Check http://overheardinpdx.blogspot.com/

Laughing is the best, and laughing at really dumb things is even better, especially now that the writer's strike is pushing a pause on The Daily Show.
